Industrial Drawing Agent
SCENE · 3D/2D DRAWINGS · PROCESS ROUTES · BOM
A task-oriented agent for 3D/2D industrial drawings and manufacturing processes. It parses STEP / IGES / DWG / DXF / PDF files, combines enterprise standards, material knowledge and historical process data, and orchestrates process-route generation, BOM generation and validation, Excel/Word report creation, and automatic drawing annotation. Low-confidence results enter focused human review; every result retains primitive, page, rule and version evidence and can be written back to PLM, MES and ERP.
Product overview
Positioning: The Industrial Drawing Agent is a task-oriented agent for 3D/2D industrial drawings and manufacturing processes, evolving traditional OCR + template “field extraction” into “semantic understanding + process decision + evidence chain”. The agent reads assembly drawings, part drawings, title blocks and parts lists, then combines enterprise standards, material knowledge and historical process data to autonomously orchestrate the full pipeline from drawing parsing through process routes, BOM, document output and system writeback.
Relationship with OPC agent: This product can run as the “drawing and process” role inside the Business Automation Agent (OPC agent), or be deployed independently between the customer’s drawing repository and PLM / MES. HITL, Gate and Evidence Pack align with the OPC agent; customer drawings and process data are not exposed externally.
Core capabilities
- Drawing understanding: Identify parts, views, dimensions, tolerances, welding symbols, title blocks and parts lists; handle scan distortion, multi-page linkage and cross-drawing references.
- Process-route generation: Combine materials, feature recognition, equipment capabilities and enterprise process rules to draft operations, steps, tooling and key control points.
- BOM generation and validation: Build structured BOMs from assemblies, parts lists and material master data; align EBOM / MBOM and flag quantity, part-number and revision differences.
- Documents and annotation: Produce templated Excel analyses, Word process documents and annotated PDF/image files.
- Field-level lineage: Every result retains field → primitive bounding box → source page → rule and version evidence.
Key metrics (observed project ranges)
| Review preparation time | Up to an 80% reduction versus the previous workflow, depending on industry and drawing complexity |
| Dimension and parameter extraction | Accuracy can exceed 95% in stable production scenarios |
| Process draft | Process draft for a single assembly drawing in < 60 s (depends on drawing complexity) |
| Field lineage | Complete field → primitive box → source page chain preserved |
Typical deployment scenarios
- Engineering review and change preparation: Before design changes enter machining and assembly, run similarity comparison, version diff and field-level review so engineers no longer hunt for differences one drawing at a time.
- BOM reconciliation and EBOM/MBOM alignment: Build structured BOMs from assemblies, cross-check against PLM master data and auto-flag part-number, quantity and revision differences as the entry point for process review.
- Shop-floor process-route drafting: Combine enterprise process cards and historical data to draft operations, steps and key control points; route to human review before writing back to the process-route library.
- Purchased and standard-part identification: Extract purchased parts, standard parts and material specifications from the parts list as auxiliary input for procurement and outsourcing (does not replace the procurement system).
Evidence chain and acceptance
Every conclusion ships with its own evidence: field-level lineage (field → primitive bounding box → source page), rules and model versions packaged with the task, HITL decisions bound to trace_id, and the ability to replay any task to see the input, model, rules, human decisions and exported file hash at that moment.
- Every drawing, field and rule maps to an openable original source, so reviewers can locate the evidence on the spot.
- All model versions and prompt changes enter an audit trail that aligns with change-order field diffs.
- The SHA-256 of outbound documents matches the frozen copy, preventing later tampering.
- Low-confidence results enter focused human review and are never silently auto-approved.
Inputs, outputs and integrations
Inputs include PDF, DWG, DXF, high-resolution raster files, and 3D CAD formats such as STEP and PRT, with plug-in support for enterprise standards, historical process cards and material master data. Outputs include JSON, Excel, Word, CSV and annotated PDF/image files, with diff and task APIs integrating against PLM, MES, ERP and process-route libraries.
